WORKSHOP
PHYSICAL DIALOGUES:
EXPERIMENTS IN COMMUNICATION THROUGH MOVEMENT
A dance technique and approach to movement research with Daniel Lepkoff and Sakura Shimada.
Our ever present physical dialogue with the environment is an expression of our imagination, intelligence, and desire for relationship. This approach frames this spontaneous material as “danced composition” and cultivates our voice as improvising dancers and performers. Exploring the details inside of functional movement: breathing, rolling, reaching, crawling, standing, walking, running, falling; addressing all our physical senses;
Practicing: OBSERVATION, THE MOVEMENT OF ATTENTION, RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE ENVIRONMENT.
Offer concrete strategies for researching our own movement. In each class we will explore simple movement structures that filter and highlight various aspects of our experience; both in doing and watching.
Daniel and Sakura draw from a long term and deep background in Anatomical Release Technique, Contact Improvisation, and Feldenkrais Technique.
